PILGRIM CRANBERRY GLASS Bennington Pattern Pitcher with Applied Clear Handle Circa 1970s

Offering a vintage hand-blown CRANBERRY GLASS PITCHER by PILGRIM GLASS of West Virginia, circa 1976 - 2001. The pitcher is in the Bennington pattern, one of the company's specialty patterns in the late 1970s. The pattern with its raised diamonds, swirls and flower motifs was designed to resemble New England's early 19th century Sandwich Glass.

Under the clear crystal applied handle are two small curls, perfectly spaced to hold your finger when pouring.  Measuring 4 ½” tall and about 3 ½” wide at the widest point, not including the handle, the pitcher will hold between 6 and 7 ounces of liquid. There is a pontil scar on the bottom of the pitcher.

The piece is in great condition and has no chips, cracks or repairs. Would be a wonderful edition to any collector's Pilgrim or cranberry glass collection---or for someone who is not a collector of glass, perfect for their morning cream.

History of Pilgrim Cranberry Glass: Pilgrim Glass Corporation, founded in 1956 by Alfred Knobler in Ceredo, West Virginia, initially created crackle glass and art glass similar to Blenko. However, the company made its mark in the glass industry in 1968 when it developed some of the world's most beautiful colored glass, Pilgrim Cranberry Glass. Due to the intensity of the process, production of the hand-blown cranberry glass was challenging; it was labor-intensive and difficult to attain the deep cranberry hue, as gold chloride was added to the molten glass during the creation process. This process necessitated the involvement of several glass workers per product.
