Leo Feist Inc., a premier music publisher of the 1920s and 1930s, released the sheet music to SANTA CLAUS IS COMIN' TO TOWN Novelty Fox Trot Song, with music by J. Fred Coots and lyrics by Haven Gillespie in 1934. This sheet music features both vocal and piano components, as well as guitar chord diagrams and symbols.
Although the publishing company was initially skeptical of its potential, Eddie Cantor's radio performance of the song in November of 1934 was well-received. The following day, Feist received orders for 100,000 copies of the sheet music, which proved to be an underestimation - sales had exceeded 400,000 by Christmas.
